Ellen Christina Steffensen Cannon Scholarship & Fellowship

The Steffensen Cannon Scholarship was established in 1989 by Hugh Cannon to honor his mother, Ellen Christina Steffensen Cannon.

In June of 1895, she was one of 48 people, 22 of them women, to graduate from the University of Utah. Ellen became a wife, mother, teacher and courageous homesteader, among many other things.

She had 10 children, raised 9 of them to adulthood, and ensured all 9 of them graduated from university.

This scholarship enables students to pursue excellence in their chosen fields of Education and Humanities, without the burden of employment.
