Graduate and Professional Student Council

Mission

Graduate and professional student workers are an essential and unique component of the University’s ecosystem. We contribute to the University of Utah's goals in many ways, including, but not limited to mentoring and teaching students, conducting research individually and in collaboration with faculty, contributing to funding by acquiring grants, increasing the public presence of the University through volunteering, and fostering community within departments. These students face challenges that are distinct from other populations on campus and require unique solutions. The goals of the Graduate and Professional Student Council are to promote graduate student engagement in shared governance processes, enhance the overall graduate student experience, and build community between these students across campus.

Inclusion Statement

The GPSC prioritizes involving students from a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and spiritual beliefs. We aim to build a community that is inclusive and supportive of all graduate and professional students, including those who have been historically underrepresented and systemically oppressed in higher education settings, such as students of color, indigenous students, students with disabilities, neurodivergent students, and students from the LGBTQ+ community, so that all voices are heard.
