Assistantships
Graduate students interested in assignments such as teaching assistant, research assistant, or graduate assistant should contact their department for application information.
University Teaching Assistantships
$28,500 teaching assistantship salary (August 16 thru May 15) plus tuition benefit (if eligible) and 100% subsidized health insurance.
For full-time graduate teaching assistants (first-year graduate students are not eligible).

Fellowships & Scholarships
Unless otherwise stated, fellowship stipends and scholarship amounts reflect nine-month support, noting the total amount for the fall and spring semesters combined.
Marriner S. Eccles Graduate Fellowship in Political Economy
$28,500 plus tuition and 100% subsidized health insurance
For U.S. citizens who are full-time graduate students pursuing research in banking, business, education, finance, humanities, law, social sciences, and its impact on relationships among politics, public policy and the economy.

Steffensen Cannon Scholarship & Fellowship
$12,000 undergraduate scholarship; $28,500 graduate fellowship (with 100% subsidized health insurance)
For graduate students in the Colleges of Education and Humanities as well as for direct descendants of Ellen Christina Steffensen Cannon.
Also for secondary education and early childhood education students who will be in the teacher certification program in the Graduate School of Education.

Graduate Research Fellowship
$28,500 plus tuition benefit – if eligible 100% subsidized health insurance
For full-time graduate students who are conducting research or creative projects and who are pursuing the terminal graduate degree in their departments.

Ronald E. McNair Graduate Fellowship
The Graduate School offers a one-year fellowship to incoming and continuing McNair alumni to attract and retain them in our graduate programs.
Shurl and Kay Curci Foundation Scholarship
Competitive living stipend, graduate tuition, and health insurance for two years.
For high-achieving, high-potential incoming PhD students in life science disciplines. Eligible prospective students are nominated by their academic department, award decisions made by the Dean of the Graduate School and their fellowship review committee.

Rosemary Wintle Endowed Scholarship
Up to $6,000
For graduate students in the College of Science and School of Medicine with preference given to students identifying as female and/or who are the first in their family to attend college
Awards made by nomination from college deans.
Awards
Garr Cutler Energy Prize
$1,500
For any University student who is enrolled and officially working toward a graduate degree at the University of Utah.
The award recognizes that academic year’s paper judged best on energy. The student must be the paper’s sole or principal author.

Thomas G. Stockham Medal for Conspicuously Effective Teaching
$5,000
For full-time graduate students who demonstrate “conspicuously effective teaching.”
Candidates for the medal are nominated by their faculty advisors and mentors.

Distinguished Dissertation & Thesis Awards
WAGS-ProQuest Innovation in Technology Award
$250 and entrance in the WAGS-ProQuest competition as an official University of Utah nominee
Given for the development of innovative technology in a thesis or dissertation and its utilization for the creative solution of a major problem.
All graduate students and graduates of the University of Utah who have defended an eligible master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation are invited to apply.

WAGS-ProQuest Distinguished Master’s Thesis Award
$250 and entrance in the WAGS-ProQuest competition as an official University of Utah nominee
All graduate students and graduates of the University of Utah who have defended an eligible master’s thesis are invited to apply.
Eligible categories:
- STEM: Biological Sciences, Mathematical & Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Engineering
- Non-STEM: Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, and Business

WAGS-ProQuest Distinguished Master’s Thesis and/or Final Master’s Capstone Project Award for Creative, Visual & Performing Arts
$250 and entrance in the WAGS-ProQuest competition as an official University of Utah nominee
All graduate students and graduates of the University of Utah in Creative, Visual, & Performing Arts disciplines who have defended an eligible master’s thesis or capstone project are invited to apply.

WAGS DISTINGUISHED AWARD FOR CREATIVE, VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS
CGS/ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Award
$500 and entrance in the CGS/ProQuest competition as an official University of Utah nominee
Recognizes dissertations that represent original work that makes an unusually significant contribution to the discipline.
Each year, CGS and ProQuest choose two discipline fields as categories for the award. This year’s categories are Biological Sciences/Life Sciences and Humanities and Fine Arts.
